The Mahmoud Darwish Museum, located on a hilltop overlooking the city of Ramallah, is a cultural beacon that preserves and celebrates the legacy of one of the most celebrated Palestinian poets of all time.

The museum, which opened in 2012, houses a wide range of Darwish's personal belongings, including his manuscripts, notebooks, pens, and glasses. There are also exhibits on his life and work, including his childhood in the village of Al-Birwa, his exile from Palestine, and his return in 1996.

The museum also hosts a variety of cultural events, including poetry readings, lectures, and exhibitions. It is a popular destination for both tourists and Palestinians alike, and is a vital part of the Palestinian cultural scene.

In an interview with Palestine Journal, Watan Miqdadi, director of the Mahmoud Darwish Museum, spoke about the museum's mission and its impact on the Palestinian cultural scene.

"We are the best custodians of Darwish's legacy and his poetic and creative wealth," Miqdadi said. "The museum is a shrine for all members of the Palestinian people of all ages."

Miqdadi explained that the museum was founded on three pillars “To preserve and collect Darwish's works from distortion and distortion, to disseminate Darwish's works around the world and follow up on translations, to develop and support the cultural reality in Palestine.”

The museum has a prominent role in enhancing the cultural scene in Palestine, and it is not limited to displaying the possessions of the poet Darwish.

"The museum works on more than one level. Locally, it publishes a monthly program announcing various cultural events, while internationally, it communicates with many publishing houses to preserve Darwish's legacy, grant translation permissions, and follow up on what is issued by publishing houses. His works, research, and articles convey the correct image of him and do not distort his works."

On the international side, the museum participates annually in all book fairs, in order to transfer the Mahmoud Darwish Museum and his career abroad and introduce it closely."

Miqdadi also highlighted some of the museum's key projects, including the Darwish Bus, the university project, and the creative project in Hazrat Darwish.

"The Darwish Bus is one of our important projects, as we go to schools to introduce Darwish's biography and hold some creative workshops, along with a number of creative Palestinian writers, to encourage students to write creatively while organizing extracurricular activities related to the book."

"The university project includes holding an open day to introduce Darwish's biography and holding cultural and poetic evenings, in addition to a creative project in Hazrat Darwish, which hosts a Palestinian, Arab, or international creator to open the way for direct communication with the Palestinian public."

Miqdadi also spoke about the museum's coordination with cultural institutions and its efforts to embrace young talent in creative writing:

"To ensure the success and unification of efforts to raise the level of culture, the Mahmoud Darwish Museum works on continuous communication with cultural institutions in Palestine, including schools, universities, and municipalities, which form an effective part in the Palestinian arena."

"With the rise of many young talents in the field of creative writing in its various forms, Miqdadi mentioned that the museum embraces some of these works, but not all of them, as the matter carries a great responsibility and requires works worthy of publication, but the museum is working to make some amendments and make some observations."

The Mahmoud Darwish Museum is a vital part of the Palestinian cultural scene. It is a place where people can come to learn about Darwish's work and legacy, and to experience the rich culture of Palestine.
